Today, the 6th International Conference on Life Cycle Management starts in Gothenburg. The conference is a meeting place for industry, academia, authorities and other organizations, where different perspectives on managing life cycles will be discussed, such as how to take action to research more sustainable production and consumption systems.
Life cycle management – LCM – is all about making entire production and consumption systems more sustainable in practice. It is an empowering concept that opens up new opportunities to influence these systems beyond organizational and national borders. Many types of actors, consumers, as well as producers, policy makers, NGOs and financial analysts have the potential to make a difference. And yet, none of them fully control the life cycle chain, there is a need for joint action. This year’s conference theme – Perspectives of managing life cycles – was chosen to shed light upon the many dimensions of life cycle management needed to achieve life cycle action in practice. The theme includes the importance of local versus global perspectives, roles and responsibilities for different actors and the relations between divergent theoretical and practical conceptions of sustainable value chains. The conference is biannual and has previously been held in e.g. Barcelona, Cape Town and Berlin. This year’s conference is arranged by the Swedish Life Cycle Center – which aims for Credible and applied life cycle thinking globally.
